Taking a Chance on Love

This is my first read by Rachel Jones.

I was grateful to find it was a clean read with the relationship at the heart of it, not the body chemistry. Though there are a few good kisses in it.

It has a great beginning, a football tackle sets the tone. There's music, sports, loss, pain, conflicting feelings and interests. All the things that make a romance great.

The characters were just the right amount of flawed and had issues they need to work out before coming together. Pacing was consistent. There are family dynamics in play to help keep the story interesting and add to the conflict.

Well done. I'd be happy to read more by this author.

Son of War, Daughter of Chaos

I have yet to read a book by Janette Rallison that I don't love. For me, this writer only gets better with every book.

This book was SO good! A whole new take on vampires, Egyptian history, good guys versus bad guys. 

The big conflict: What happens when two opposing races spawn kids? Which side do they belong on? Or do they become a new race that can be greater than the originals?

So much drama, action, and heartfelt writing. 

Loved the heroine. And the hero was pretty awesome too. Flaws, confusion, pulled apart and put back together. Every sense was given fodder to bathe in. Fast paced, global trotting, introspection. And most importantly it's relationship driven! A clean read that's based on hearts, not chemistry. Can you tell I loved it? 

I totally want the sequel!!!

This sequel to The Map to Everywhere is every bit as enjoyable as its predecessor!

Loved having Marill and Finn back together. There are adventures along the Pirate Stream to be had. The authors spared no imagination in telling the story, coupled with the heart tugging conflicts of family versus friendship are impressive. New characters, conflicts, cool gadgets, and crazy villains aboud!

I am in awe of their craftsmandship.

It's a fast read with the right amount of description to keep the story flowing as quick as the Pirate Stream! Middle graders on up will be delighted with this one and yearn for the next installment of this awesome duo's tale.

Jacob & Lace

Jacob and Lace by Tory Anderson is my first read by this MG author.

The story of two unlikely friends is touching. Jacob's life is turned upside down when his depressed mother suddenly uproots them from their life in California to a tiny town. Lace is an outcast living on the fringes of rural life. The friendship is tenderly formed and as the relationship grows both their lives change for the better. But change, no matter the outcome, is often painful and it is no different for these two characters.

The story is well crafted and told with heart. Middle grade readers might find it a little slow, but it moves at a steady pace and there is much to be learned and gained from the story.

I'd read more by this author.
