Rocky Road Contest

I have a copy of Josi Kilpack's new book Rocky Road to give away.

It officially launches on Sept. 10th, I think, but some overly excited stores are already stocking and selling this latest book in the Sadie Hofmiller series. The title recipe is for fudge. Here's how to enter and win!

Send me your fudge recipe.

OR

Send me your brownie recipe.

(I got nervous there aren't enough fudge recipes in the world so I'm giving you another option.)

Send by midnight Sept. 6th via the comment section, email or FB.

I'll announce the winner on Sept 19th along with my review!

Here is the blurb. Enjoy!

THE ST. GEORGE SPECTRUM Dr. Trenton Hendricks was last seen Friday, April 8, when he set out alone on a backpacking trip. Hendricks's Jeep Grand Cherokee was located Tuesday at the Chuckwalla Trailhead, but after six days and thousands of man-hours, the official search has been called off. He is presumed to be deceased. It was supposed to be a girls' weekend in scenic St. George, Utah, that would include shopping, trying out the local cuisine, and participating in a breast cancer fund-raiser. The fact that one of the organizers of the fund-raising event, a local doctor, had disappeared two months before was not supposed to be Sadie's problem. When Sadie learns that her friend Caro and Caro's cousin, Tess, have started a grassroots investigation into Dr. Hendricks's disappearance, Sadie graciously refused to be a part of it. With her wedding to plan and her most recent case still fresh in her mind, Sadie is determined to leave this case to the police--until she meets the ex-wife of the missing man. How could she not ask a few questions . . . that lead to more questions . . . that lead to a small town and even more questions! When the local police ask her to be their eyes and ears, Sadie can't help but jump in with both feet. Before she knows it, she is on the rocky road of another investigation, following a convoluted trail of good intentions, hidden motivations, and philanthropy turned big business.

  1. So your family is in for a treat if you are going to try out a whole bunch of fudge and brownie recipes!

I have noticed a definite difference in making fudge here at sea level V. making it at altitude--creamier, richer, and faster!

  2. This is one of my favorites! I can't make them too often because I EAT them. Ha!

    Shirley's Rocky Road Brownies

    Cream together:
2 sticks margarine or butter, softened
    2 cups sugar

    Add:
    1/3 cup cocoa powder
4 eggs, one at a time beating well after each egg
    1 ¾ cup flour
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons vanilla
    ¼ cup chopped nuts.

Spread and bake on a greased 10 x 15 jelly roll pan at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Take from oven and spread 1 pound of mini-marshmallows on top and return to the oven for about 2 minutes or until the marshmallows are puffing and just starting to brown. Remove from oven and let cool. When cool frost with the following:

    Frosting:

Beat the following together until pea-sized crumbles form:
¾ cup margarine or butter, softened
    2 cups powdered sugar
    1/3 cup cocoa powder

Slowly add milk or cream until you get the consistency desired.

Makes a bunch- the number depends on how big you like them!!

  3. The absolute best recipe for brownies in the entire world is the King Arthur Flour brownie recipe. The two things that make this AMAZING are:

    1. They use cocoa powder AND melted chocolate to get better chocolate flavor than cocoa powder alone.

    2. They make the crinkly top you get from boxed brownies.

It's a lot of work, but worth it.

  5. This is the BEST and it can be made with any brownie recipe, so make a box of Betty Crocker brownies or your favorite. The minute they come out of the oven, toss 2 cups chocolate chips and 2 cups of miniature marshmallows on top (1 Cup chopped walnuts is optional). Throw it right back into the oven for 2 minutes, then take it out to let cool. If it's Christmas time, then sprinkle some crushed bits of candy cane on top. So pretty! So delicious!!

  6. I love Josi's books.
Here's my recipe with ingredients I usually have on hand:
    FUDGE
    2/3 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup (one stick) butter or margarine
    2 cups sugar
12 oz. pkg chocolate chips (any flavor)
    2 cups mini marshmallows
    1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cups chopped walnuts or pecans, optional
Combine evap. milk, butter, and sugar in medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves and starts to boil. Bring to rolling boil for 5 minutes, remove from heat. Stir in remaining ingredients. Pour into buttered 8" or 9" pan and let cool. Cut into squares. Store covered.
During the Christmas season I stir in crushed peppermint candies.

  8. Actually, don't worry about my entry anymore. I noticed I missed the deadline, and I was given the book from someone else. Thanks for the giveaway, though.
